Submissions are now being accepted for UPSHOT! Up Arts Incubator's 1st Annual Juried Photography Show, which will be held in the gallery and online from June 18th - July 30th.

Artists may choose to have their work shown online only if they prefer to not ship or hand-deliver their work for the in-person show.

All work chosen for the show, in-person and/or online, will be eligible to receive the "Best in Show" award and/or the Director's Choice award. 

UPSHOT! celebrates all forms of photography from traditional b/w to alternative processes to digital composites. If your work is derivative, the majority of the images used should be your own and those incorporated from other sources should not violate any copyright issues. This is an anything goes type of show. One "Best in Show" award will be chosen by the show's juror, Juliette Cook, InLiquid Development Director, and one "Director's Choice" award will be chosen by the gallery. 

All submissions should not have a dimension larger than 30" inches, including the matte and frame. Frameless, professionally mounted images are also acceptable, such as images on wood, acrylic, or aluminum. And, all pieces should be wired for hanging. Please no sawtooth hanging hardware or drilled holes. 

About the Show's Juror:

Juliette Cook has worked closely with contemporary artists throughout her career, advocating for their creative practices from various roles within museums, art centers, and foundations. She has written press and public statements for William Kentridge, Takashi Murakami, and many other internationally recognized artists while MoMA P.S.1. She has developed project proposals for Hank Willis Thomas and Zanele Muholi while at the Philadelphia Photo Arts Center. Earlier in her career, at the Philadelphia Art Alliance, she organized exhibitions of work by dozens of artists, many of whom have gone on to great acclaim, including Mierle Leiderman Ukeles, Virgil Marti, Gabriel Martinez, and many others.

Juliette is currently a Trustee and Treasurer of the Penn Treaty SSD, a foundation serving the civic and cultural needs of the Philadelphia riverwards neighborhoods, and is the Development Director for InLiquid, a non-profit arts organization serving artists and audiences in Philadelphia. 

Submission Contract:

In order to cut back on paper use, this online form serves as a contract between you and the gallery, Up Arts Incubator. Submission of this form and the corresponding payment automatically waives your right to any claim for damage or loss against Up Arts Incubator, Dalissa McEwen, or any Up Arts Incubator employees. Up Arts Incubator takes multiple steps to ensure that all work shown at the gallery is handled with care but will not assume any liability for loss or damage for work damaged during shipment to or from the gallery or while in the possession of Up Arts Incubator. Please insure your work, if concerned about loss.
All shipped artwork must include a paid-for return shipping label.

The artist retains all copyrights to work submitted and shown by the gallery, but agrees that by submitting the images via this form, the images/art may be used for marketing both online and in-person and for the corresponding online exhibition without compensation. All art/images will be credited to the artist appropriately. If the artist's work is accepted into the show, the artist agrees to not sell the work elsewhere for the duration of the show, both online or in-person. Any work sold by the gallery online or in-person will be sold with the artist receiving 70% of the sale price and the gallery retaining 30%. 

By submitting this form and the corresponding payment, the artist (you) agrees to and accepts all terms and conditions contained in this call for entries.

Entry Fee: The entry fee is $25 for 2 images. Each additional image is $5.

Artists Notified: May 26th, 2021

Hand-delivered Art Drop Off: June 12th and June 13th, 12-4 pm (individual appts by request)

Shipped Art Due at Gallery: Please schedule your shipment to arrive between June 7th-June 11th. A separate shipping address will be provided to you. 

Exhibit Dates: June 18th - July 30th, 2020

Opening Gallery Reception: June 18th, 5 - 8 pm, socially distanced. Entry will be by timed appointment.
